With Thanksgiving next week, there may be no better time to sharpen our culinary skills and whet our appetites in preparation for the food-focused holiday. This weekend makes perfect timing then for the Miami Fine Wine & Spirits Festival held at Peacock Park. Consumers will have the opportunity to try an array of samples, buy and learn about all things related to fine wine and spirits, and attend live cooking demonstrations complemented with pairing and tasting seminars.

For a bit of physical preparation before indulging in the Thanksgiving feast,  I’ll stop by The Barnacle State Park’s Old Time Dance event for some oldschool cardio.  Dance like it’s 1891 with an evening of contras, squares and waltzes to Traditional American music. And in the spirit of gratitude the holiday brings, this Tuesday join an  inspired talk on the “science of happiness” at The Bookstore in The Grove. The Finding Happy event, will include a discussion of how to live a more joyful life with author Hannah Sentenac.

I’m also very excited to hear that Coconut Grove has “officially been deemed the next cool neighborhood” with the coming addition of one of my favorite restaurants, Harry’s Pizzeria. The urban, rustic foodie joint serves up fresh, fire-roasted pizza with plenty of organic veggies. The fish of the day is always delicious and I highly recommend my favorite dish–  the manchego pizza with shrimp!
