Just remember to pace yourself, since it’s only the start of what’s sure to be a decadent season.

Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop

Thanksgiving time or not, people really like pie. Wynwood-born Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop expands yet again with a brand-new location in Fort Lauderdale. The former firefighter’s large selection ranges from classic key lime, apple and pumpkin, to not your everyday grasshopper and “guavaberry.” Find chicken pot pie, empanadas, cakes and cookies, too.

Fort Lauderdale, the Venice of America, is a boater’s and beachgoer’s paradise. But it’s also home to a burgeoning art scene that spills over into art-centric neighborhoods and annual events. Fancy living here? Discover more local details and property listings with the following links.

Thirteen Bakery

Quite the opposite as its name might imply, Thirteen Bakery is a lucky addition for sweet-tooth types who need or prefer gluten-free baked goods. Its owner chose the number for many reasons—it’s a baker’s dozen and the length of Amelia Island. The almond cake pictured here is just one of her delectable desserts.

Part of the Sea Island archipelago in the Southeastern U.S., Amelia Island tops many vacationers’ bucket lists. Eight flags have flown over the centuries-old, historic destination, whose quiet beaches and premier resorts such as the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island continue to draw residents and visitors. Salt & Straw, whose artisanal ice cream shops span Oregon to Disney Springs, soon pops up in Miami Beach before opening a permanent space. Seasonal flavors include a Thanksgiving-themed series like pumpkin and gingersnap, and roasted peach and sage cornbread stuffing. Blend the former with Panther Coffee Tres Leches for a decadent milkshake.

The dynamic city of Miami Beach is constantly evolving with the influx of new residents, visitors, businesses and brands from all over the world. There’s always something new and exciting to try, whether a starchitect-designed space, museum exhibit or hot restaurant. Fancy living here? Pie It Forward

Purchase pies during the eighth annual Pie It Forward fundraiser for Meals on Wheels of the Palm Beaches through November 17.
