Though associated with summer for its breathtaking beaches, Southern California also shines in fall. Locals savor the season’s perfect climate conditions and excitement of a fresh start. ONE Sotheby’s International Realty and Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty are celebrating the change of season by highlighting news and events from Orange County to San Diego. Whether you’re heading to the West Coast for the Breeders’ Cup or taking a vacation during fall break, here’s a guide to discover this beautiful part of the country.

Orange County Museum of Art

Many of our friends and colleagues know Orange County Museum of Art CEO and director Heidi Zuckerman through her tenure at Aspen Art Museum. Join her for OCMA’s ArtSense gala (October 7), for which master sommelier Jay Fletcher curates wines and California artist Jennifer Guidi is being honored. Catch current solo shows including “Alice Neel: Feels Like Home” and “Jennifer Guidi: And so it is.”

New Bites: San Diego

More than chefs, couple Elliott and Kelly Townsend tell a good yarn. Hear all about it at their Long Story Short eatery with fall harvest dishes like roasted kabocha squash with pumpkin seeds and brown butter complemented by natural wines. While scouting for a permanent home, brotherly chefs Danny and Dante Romero’s tasting menu concept Two Ducks is popping up around town.

New Bites: Orange County

Have a side of chic design with your Sonoran meets Baja coastal cuisine at Newport Beach’s stunning Palmilla Cocina y Tequila. In-demand Icelandic architect Gulla Jónsdóttir is behind the hot spot’s look. Sanjay Rawat, executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, launches Kahani in October. Hindu for “story,” the restaurant serves fare spiced with curry to cardamom from his native India.

South Coast Plaza

Boasting an incredible array of hundreds of luxury brands, South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa sees 22 million visitors annually. They’ll have even more reason to shop with fall openings of Balmain, Byredo, Graff, Maison Margiela and Jil Sander. It’s been a busy time for the center. Missoni, Alexander Wang, John Varvatos and Louis Vuitton Men’s recently unveiled locations, too.

The Lafayette Hotel

The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club and Bungalows, which debuted after a $31-million renovation by new owner, hospitality firm CH Projects, has a Florida connection. Johnny Weissmuller, the Olympic gold medalist who played Tarzan and resided in Miami’s Coral Gables, designed its original pool. Guests of the 139-room, historic gem can enjoy the amenity as well as eight dining options from Quixote to Beginner’s Diner.
