Historic Coconut Grove is nothing if not passionate about tradition and their strong roots. A current real estate related story reflects that perfectly. The Grove Isle Hotel and Spa has been slated for replacement by a new 18th story tower standing at 180 feet. Neighbor outrage at a noisy, construction filled future resulting in a building which will block views has triggered a Miami Zoning review. Members of the Grove Isle condominium association have hired a lawyer and are organizing a “Preserve Grove Isle Committee” to fight progress on these development plans. The zoning department review will include the interpretation of a 1977 zoning agreement that allowed a past developer to build up to 4 18-story towers with a max of 575 units. With only 3 towers built at that time, the current developer may have the grounds to construct one more.
