It feels like summer flew by in a blur. Kids are back in school or about to start, and everyone is gearing up for fall from new fashions to nonstop openings and other events. Despite the desire to speed ahead into next season, it’s worth taking a moment to make the most of Labor Day weekend. Here are some tips for tastes, tunes, and art to celebrate the holiday.

Naturally Good
Like craft cocktails, natural wine is here to stay. If you haven’t sampled them, there are plenty of shops and wine bars that specialize in the niche. Miami has seen the greatest explosion in our region, a few being Margot, Lucio, and Sobremesa, while Fort Lauderdale’s Sidewalk Bottle Shop opens soon.
Chill Out
So many new icy treats, so little time! Fort Pierce’s Main Street Ice Cream quickly became known for ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies baked onsite. Nationwide Jeremiah’s Italian Ice opened a Boca Raton branch for its 40 flavors. Joyfull in Delray Beach makes healthy alternatives like oat milk soft serve ice cream.
Last Chance
Art lovers have through September 5 to visit “A Tribute to Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Selections from the Tom Golden Collection” at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Selected from America’s largest private collection of the couple’s work, the survey of prints, photos, drawings, collages, and ephemera spans nearly 40 years of their career.
Listen Live
Take a vacation in your mind by listening to live music in a laid-back, outdoor setting. Several local destinations are hosting concerts. Country singer Cody Johnson’s tour comes to Abacoa Amphitheatre in Jupiter on September 5. Nearby Guanabanas and its sister restaurant TideHouse in Stuart also booked musical acts throughout the weekend.

Backyard Burgers
Miami Shores-based Proper Sausages pioneered a new wave of artisanal butcher shops. The gourmet store and eatery carries a nice selection of fine meats including its signature sausages that are also available through the Mercato app. Treat yourself to its Butcher’s Cut wagyu burger on a Sullivan Street Bakery bun, too.
