The annual Art Basel Miami Beach has been reimagined as OVR: Miami Beach, an abbreviation for “online viewing rooms.” Following its VIP reception from December 2-4, the fair runs through December 6. Attendees will find the usual sectors such as Nova and Positions totaling 255 galleries from 30 countries. Virtual programming continues the popular Conversations series, along with studio visits and more.

Satellite fairs are also taking place in December. NADA fair welcomes online and in-person browsing for nearly 100 galleries. Untitled fair invites tastemakers like Agnes B. to share picks from its online edition, which includes talks such as “Curating in the Caribbean.” Pinta Miami for modern and contemporary Latin American Art enhances its digital platform with pop-up events around town.

Palm Beach gallerist Sarah Gavlak’s New Wave Art Wknd promotes the local art scene and diversity. Its third edition, a virtual/in-person hybrid from December 4-6, features the theme “Art as Activism: The Fight for Equality and Justice.” Attend panel discussions and studio visits with Sanford Biggers and Nate Lewis. Take virtual tours of collectors’ homes with VIP passes benefitting the artist-in-residence program.

See art safely at the A.I.M. Biennial, a new outdoor exhibit for site-specific installations placed mainly throughout South Florida (works can also be found in Georgia, Texas and Tallahassee). Artist William Cordova and local curators organized the group show, which stands for “Art in Movement,” with nearly 70 artists across myriad genres. Take your time, too, since it’s up through December 31.

The City of Miami Beach collaborated with 10 boutique hotels including the Betsy and the Plymouth as venues for the group show “No Vacancy.” Tour large-scale installations such as Karelle Levy’s The InterKnit: a world wide web and Federico Uribe’s Animals and Friends, pictured, through December 12. The selected artists are also competing for significant cash prizes, and winners will be announced soon.

Nina Johnson Gallery is exhibiting Emmett Moore’s “The Boat House” at an off-site location, a residence in Miami’s historic Spring Garden neighborhood, through December 6. Reservations are required (rsvp to [email protected]) to view Moore’s sculptural furniture that blurs the line between fine art and functional design. The works’ locally sourced materials range from coral rock to mahogany from a felled tree.
