The Scoop | Week of December 20

JILL PENMAN December 22, 2022

As many of our ONE Sotheby’s Florida friends and family head to Aspen Snowmass for winter break, we present a special edition of the Scoop inspired by a beloved holiday tune. Our “Twelve Days of Aspen Snowmass” guide features nearly everything you need regarding news for the ski/snowboard season. Aspen Skiing Company’s four mountains—Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands—are just the start to exploring these vibrant ski resort towns. More luxury hotels have joined the pool that already includes the St. Regis Aspen, W Aspen, the Little Nell, Viceroy Snowmass, Hotel Jerome, Limelight Hotel Aspen and Limelight Hotel Snowmass. New dining comes every year, with Sant Ambroeus on deck. As we await the arrival of Hermès, season brings several other permanent stores and pop ups. Along with outstanding institutions like Aspen Art Museum and Anderson Ranch Arts Center, the culture scene grows with our picks to prove it. Nonstop flights also increased; fly from Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco. With so much accessible terrain and activity, it’s no wonder that visitors often decide to invest in Aspen Snowmass residential real estate. Whether a visitor or local, please take the Aspen Pledge to preserve this unique, natural and cultural treasure for future generations. Happy holidays!

1. Viewline Resort Snowmass

Following a $40-million makeover and luxury rebranding of a previous hotel, Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection is part of the Snowmass Village’s rampant renaissance. The ski-in/ski-out, 254-room property features Ayurvedic-angled Lupine Spa, a heated pool and onsite ski concierge. Dining options range from Lobby Bar’s lively après ski to the slopeside Stark’s Alpine Grill & Deck.

Grab a pair of complimentary snow shoes to tour its beautiful natural setting and sculpture collection, and reserve a heated igloo for a romantic repast. Newly refurbished accommodations, including designer furniture, honor its signature Bauhaus heritage.

5. Art in Unexpected Places

It’s always fun to see which artist is selected for the annual Art in Unexpected Places. For the 18th season, Rashid Johnson’s mosaics, collages and photography adorn Aspen Cards, lift tickets, season passes and limited-edition skis through the AspenX series. The Aspen Art Museum Artcrush honoree has works at PAMM, Rubell Museum and de la Cruz Collection.

6. Winter Wonderland

Plan your ski vacation to hit one of these exciting winter events. The 72nd annual Wintersköl involves snow sculptures to fireworks (January 12-15). Aspen Gay Ski Week returns for its 46th year (January 15-22). 7. Parc Aspen

A couple who are champions of locally owned restaurants took over L’Hostaria’s former space for farm-to-table concept Parc Aspen. They tapped Snow Lodge and Casa D’Angelo alum Mark Connell as executive chef for three dining experiences—a casual bar menu (kale croquettes, burgers), contemporary fine dining (striped bass crudo, ricotta/short rib anolini) and a 12-seat private room.

8. Guest in Residence

Model Gigi Hadid’s direct-to-consumer cashmere collection Guest in Residence pops up in Aspen through February 28. The concept, which she dubs a Feel Shop, stocks men’s and women’s sweaters, jackets, bottoms and accessories like socks and beanies.
