The Scoop | Week of October 10

Though fall is in the air here in Florida, nothing beats a trip to New England or New York to experience the season in full. ONE Sotheby’s International Realty and William Pitt Sotheby’s Realty have put together a travel and lifestyle guide to visit these wonderful regions for fall colors, antiquing, hayrides, bonfires and more autumnal fun. Enjoy this beautiful time of year.

The Mayflower Inn & Spa

The Mayflower Inn & Spa is made for New England fall weather. Book guestrooms, suites and standalone cottages to enjoy amenities like The Well, which soon expands to Miami, and experiences from birding to bonfires. Trout with salsa verde is on the menu by new executive chef José Ramírez-Ruiz, who formerly owned Brooklyn’s Michelin-starred Semilla. Shop Lizzie Fortunato jewelry and accessories on October 21.

Connecticut Cuisine

Le Bernardin alum David DiStasi opened Materia Ristorante in Bantam for a contemporary approach to Italian fare, finished with a digestivo from the grappa cart. Making The New York Times 2023 Restaurant List, Ore Hill sources much of its produce, dairy and meat from nearby Rock Cobble Farm in South Kent. Litchfield County-located Community Table was nominated for a James Beard award this year.

Art Adventures

Tour galleries and studios and watch performances during ArtWeek Berkshires 2023 (October 14-22). The Clark exhibits West Palm Beach native Elizabeth Atterbury’s stone sculptures and embossed abstract prints, while Miami-born Purvis Young’s “This is the Life I See” is on view at MoCA Westport. “Robert Motherwell and Multiplicity” is among art and science exhibits at the newly expanded Bruce museum in Greenwich, Conn.

Leaf Peeping

Experience fall colors in all their glory. Haystack Mountain State Park’s and Talcott Mountain State Park’s towers offer panoramic views around Norfolk’s and Simsbury’s Connecticut countryside, respectively. As its name implies, Kent Falls State Park in the southern Berkshires features cascading water pools along a walking trail. Sheep Hill in Williamstown houses a nature center and overlooks Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts. |

Shopping & Antiques

Shop fall fashions and home décor at Christian Siriano’s multi-brand lifestyle store The Collective West in Westport, Conn. U.K.-based Little Greene soon launches its first U.S. showroom for luxe, eco-friendly wallpapers and paints in Greenwich, Conn. Browse antiques and vintage design at The Berkshire Galleries of Great Barrington in Massachusetts; Jeffrey Tillou in Litchfield, Conn., and Black Squirrel in Lakeville, Conn. | | | | blacksquirrelantiques

Fall Fun

It wouldn’t be fall without pumpkin patches, apple orchards, cider doughnuts and harvest festivals. Hilltop Orchards in the Berkshires hosts Apple Talk & Cider Tales (Saturdays throughout October). See the first-ever pumpkin Ferris wheel at the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze in the Hudson River Valley (Van Cortlandt Manor, through November 19). Bunnell Farm in Litchfield, Conn., offers hayrides, a corn maze and fall treats.
