Zoning Out? New Developments in the Grove Isle Project

Zoning Out? New Developments in the Grove Isle Project

Historic Coconut Grove is nothing if not passionate about tradition and their strong roots. A current real estate related story reflects that perfectly. The Grove Isle Hotel and Spa has been slated for replacement by a new 18th story tower standing at 180 feet. Neighbor outrage at a noisy, construction filled future resulting in a building which will block views has triggered a Miami Zoning review. Members of the Grove Isle condominium association have hired a lawyer and are organizing a “Preserve Grove Isle Committee” to fight progress on these development plans. The zoning department review will include the interpretation of a 1977 zoning agreement that allowed a past developer to build up to 4 18-story towers with a max of 575 units. With only 3 towers built at that time, the current developer may have the grounds to construct one more. We’ll continue to keep you updated as coverage of this Coconut Grove community matter continues.
