The Scoop Weekend of June 1st

Jill Penman Group November 16, 2019

FORTIES & FLORIDA

Two authors with ties to the Sunshine State will read from their new novels at Books & Books’ Coral Gables location. Pamela Druckerman, who attended Ransom Everglades while growing up in Miami, returns for a talk and book signing on June 1. The Paris-based contributor to The New York Times and author of the best-selling “Bringing Up Bébé” shares her hilarious insight into life in your forties with “There Are No Grown-Ups.” RSVP here. Gainesville, Fla., resident Lauren Groff has written for The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly, along with penning several best sellers like “Fates and Furies,” a finalist for the National Book Award in fiction. On June 6, she dives into “Florida,” her latest collection of short stories filled with storms, snakes and sinkholes. RSVP here.

VERDE TO ST. TROPEZ

Relax with June’s dining and drinking specials. Sustainable Supperclub, a plant-based, pop-up dinner party, premieres at PAMM’s Verde restaurant on June 5. Knowing they need to make a splash with their inaugural event, founders Mayela Lanza and Jennifer Weinberg collaborate with Janine Booth, chef partner of Stiltsville Fish Bar who was nominated for a James Beard Award this year. Reserve here. Coral Gables gets a jump start on Miami Spice with its own restaurant week from June 4-24. Click here for the complete list of participants and to reserve prix-fixe lunches and dinners. It’s no mystery Miamians love Whispering Angel rose, especially poolside. Château d’Esclans transforms an exclusive cabana at the Fontainebleau, pictured, into St. Tropez through summer. The Rosésis package features three bottles of the winemaker’s new Palm rose and bites.

THINK PINK + CAVALLI FOR KIDS

Featured in many movies and TV shows, Miami’s iconic Pink House is the theme of an exhibit opening at Nina Johnson gallery on June 7 from 7-9 p.m. Nine artists present works on paper, including the one pictured here by the home’s architect Laurinda Spear. She and her husband designed the Art Deco meets Miami Modern residence for her parents in the late seventies when they also cofounded their architecture firm, Arquitectonica. Other participating artists are Nicolas Lobo, Ann Craven and Peter Halley, while Emmett Moore designed the exhibit’s installation. View it through July 28. Antonio Banderas is in town to support the annual Miami Fashion Week and its charity gala with a fashion show by Roberto Cavalli for Nicklaus Children’s Health Foundation on June 1. Reserve here.

BEAM ME UP

More than a beacon, the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is literally and figuratively a pillar of the coastal community. The museum and 120-acre nature preserve constantly hosts events for every age. Adults and children ages 5 and up can join the Hike Through History on June 2 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Return for Twilight Yoga at 7 p.m. on June 4; classes for all levels of experience are held on the deck every Monday. Meet at the Lighthouse Seminole Chickee Hut for story time and crafts on the morning of June 5; suggested age is 8 years old and under to learn about local history, plants and animals. June 6 features the Lighthouse Book Club at 6 p.m. with Florida-themed literature, followed by a sunset and stargazing tour at 7:45 p.m. RSVP required.
