Thinking ahead, Pérez Art Museum Miami planned fall exhibits in honor of its 35th anniversary in January. Since the milestone coincides with the 35th anniversary of a seminal artwork in the city’s history, it programmed Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980-83 | A Documentary Exhibition from October 4, 2018 to February 17, 2019. The husband-and-wife artists, who simply went by their first names, encircled 11 islands with pink fabric for the site-specific art installation here. Though the global sensation lasted two weeks in 1983, it catapulted Miami into the international art scene. Christo (Jeanne-Claude passed away.), who loaned related works and archived materials, discusses the project and their prolific career on October 4. Its film directed by the Maysles brothers screens three days a week.

October brings pumpkins and pampering thanks to Palm Beach County’s third annual Spa & Wellness Month. To change it up this year, the initiative introduces fitness events like bootcamp classes at FITTEAM Ballpark and District Fit, a multi-day festival for holistic treatments, exercise classes, seminars and healthy meals on October 19-21. A portion of proceeds from the month’s activities and spa treatments supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month via the American Cancer Society of Palm Beach. Special packages include The Power of Pink Scrub at the Breakers for guests to sip rosé prosecco during an aromatherapy foot soak, exfoliation and reflexology massage in the spa’s courtyard. Other exclusive offers range from Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa’s Pamper Yourself Pink Massage to Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa’s Essence facial with SkinCeuticals products.
Another Michelin-starred toque is coming to town. Fabio Trabocchi expands his Washington D.C.-based Fiola to Coral Gables soon. The chef owner and his wife selected Miami for their first venture outside the nation’s capital after vacationing here for years. They also run Del Mar, Fiola Mare and Sfoglina Pasta House back home. Wanting to be part of Miami’s dining evolution, they tweaked their hit Italian concept for the Florida lifestyle. Health-conscious items including a prix-fixe, three-course Mediterranean lunch are mixed in with signatures like a prosciutto-wrapped veal chop in osso buco sauce with Alba hazelnuts; ginger- and chive-seasoned lobster ravioli, and red prawns and sea urchin folded into bucatini. Interiors by Jeffrey Beers International and the 8,000-bottle wine cellar’s rare picks from private collections further promote a visit.

With young families back in the groove of the school year, parents always welcome kid-geared perks to ease busy schedules. Pigtails & Crewcuts, a clever nationwide chain for children’s haircuts and custom products, opened a South Miami branch. After choosing a cute, vehicle-shaped chair and picking out a video, game, book or toy, wee ones don’t mind sitting still while having their locks trimmed. A wooden train set occupies their siblings, and clients get to pay a visit to the treasure chest as a reward for being good. If mom or dad decides to do a little more shopping, there’s a retail section for gifts and hair products and accessories. Of course, local parents who were frustrated with the lack of services in the area brought the concept here.
